"CAST : Art and Objects" An Upcoming Exhibition at the Wayne Art Center
We are thrilled to announce that CAST is going to come to life as an invitational exhibition called CAST: Art and Objects at the Wayne Art Center in the Ethel Sergeant Clark Smith Gallery, December 7, 2018 – January 26, 2019.
Since we began writing CAST, we felt that the art and objects in the book would make an incredible exhibition. We are so grateful to the Wayne Art Center for seeing what we saw in the book - the potential for a visually stunning and thought provoking show.
In addition to works by contemporary artists and craftspeople, CAST: Art and Objects will include historical objects as well as some everyday objects. The purpose of this show (like the book) is to encourage the audience to consider casting’s omnipresence and countless exciting contributions to the world around us.
We are in the curatorial process now and invitations will be going out soon! We are inviting a selection of artists whose works are featured in the book. CAST is such an encyclopedic review, not every artist whose work is represented in the book could possibly be included in this exhibition due to space limitations and shipping costs incurred by the Wayne Art Center. We started our list of works by considering what would make a well-rounded show, what would work well in the space, and we are emphasizing regional artists when we can. We will post a list of participating artists when all the responses are in.
CAST: Art and Objects will run concurrently with the annual exhibition, CraftForms, a much beloved show held every year at the Wayne Art Center. CraftForms is an internationally recognized show featuring established and emerging artists from around the world. Every year, CraftForms and its companion show attract over 5,000 visitors from across the country who come to appreciate art and craft of the highest caliber. We are thrilled that CAST: Art and Objects was chosen to be the companion show this year and we look forward to the events surrounding the opening of the shows.
